Miami (January 13, 2026) - The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) announces the launch of the Dialogue Series on Artificial Intelligence and Media in Latin America – 2026, a regional initiative aimed at creating a permanent space for reflection, exchange, and learning on the impact of artificial intelligence on journalism, education, and media sustainability in the region.

“This dialogue series reflects the IAPA’s commitment to supporting media organizations as they seek to understand and responsibly navigate the profound transformations driven by artificial intelligence. Our goal is to foster informed discussion, regional collaboration, and practical learning that strengthen journalism, innovation, and press freedom in Latin America,” said Carlos Lauría, Executive Director of the IAPA.

The initiative will run throughout 2026 and will combine webinars, expert discussions, and forums for debate, which will be held both virtually and as part of other IAPA meetings and events. As a starting point, a series of four webinars will be held, organized with academic support from Florida International University's (FIU) Kimberly Green Center for Latin America and the Caribbean (LACC). These will address editorial processes, business models, the training of new generations of journalists, and the ethical challenges associated with verification, accuracy, and public trust.

Through thematic sessions, the series will bring together specialists, academics, and newsroom leaders to identify emerging trends, share practical experiences, and explore the opportunities and risks that AI poses for the future of journalism in Latin America. The initiative is conceived as an open and evolving space that will continue to incorporate new voices, perspectives, and formats throughout the year.
