Miami (May 14, 2025) — The Latin American Council for the Accreditation of Education in Journalism and Communication (CLAEP) will commemorate its 25 years of commitment to academic excellence in Latin America during the 13th Meeting of Accredited Programs, which will take place from May 26 to 28 at the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina (UCA) in Buenos Aires.
This event will bring together representatives from 23 accredited schools and departments across six countries, along with institutions currently undergoing evaluation. CLAEP, a program of the Inter American Press Association (IAPA) established in 2000, leads a voluntary accreditation process aimed at improving the quality of journalism education in an increasingly challenging environment for media and democracy.
The 13th CLAEP Meeting will offer a privileged space for the exchange of ideas, strengthening academic networks, and promoting best practices. Under the theme “Toolkit to Reinvent Communication,” the program will include:
- A commemorative ceremony marking CLAEP’s 25th anniversary, featuring former Council presidents, founders, and directors of accredited programs.
- Panel discussions on the future of journalism, including the role of artificial intelligence, fact-checking, and ethics in times of disinformation.
- Practical workshops focused on integrating digital skills, new transmedia narratives, and critical audience analysis.
- Presentations of successful cases from accredited programs and innovative experiences in teaching, research, and media engagement.
- Networking sessions among university authorities, editors, faculty, and students, aimed at strengthening strategic alliances between academia and the journalism industry.
The event will also be attended by IAPA leaders, including Second Vice President Carlos Jornet, editorial director of La Voz del Interior, and Executive Director Carlos Lauría, along with CLAEP President Norberto Frigerio and Executive Director Juan David Bernal.
The 13th CLAEP Meeting will feature prominent figures in Ibero-American journalism, such as Juan Luis Sánchez (eldiario.es, Spain), Daniel Hadad (Infobae), José Del Rio, Carlos Pagni and Hugo Alconada Mon (La Nación), and Carlos Eduardo Huertas (Connectas, Colombia), who will address the challenges of the profession in times of digital disruption, political power, and editorial transformation.
They will be joined by influential voices from the media ecosystem including Diego Leuco (Luzu TV), Luciana Geuna (Olga), Miguel Wiñazki (Neura), and Galia Moldavsky (Blender), along with distinguished figures such as Florencia Pulla (El Cronista), Silvia Bacher, Jorge Fernández Díaz (2025 Nadal Prize), and Héctor Aranda (Clarín), who will enrich the debates on innovation, media literacy, and emerging narratives. The closing session will be led by the Director of the Journalism Program at Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA), Hernán Cappiello.
