Miami (January 7, 2026) – The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) and the Latin American Council for Accreditation of Journalism and Communication Education (CLAEP) announce the official opening of the 2026 call for applications for the fourth edition of the IAPA-CLAEP Diploma Program in Journalism, a regional academic program aimed at strengthening the skills of journalists and communication professionals in the face of the challenges posed by innovation, media sustainability, and the growing impact of artificial intelligence on the news industry.

Under the theme “Innovation and Media Sustainability in the Age of AI,” the diploma program is coordinated by Universidad de La Sabana (Colombia) and Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (Peru), both institutions of excellence accredited by CLAEP.

The academic plan is structured into two complementary modules. The first focuses on innovation, business models, and media sustainability, with an emphasis on new value-creation dynamics, journalistic entrepreneurship, and strategies to strengthen the viability of news organizations. The second analyzes the impact of artificial intelligence on media strategy and management, content production, audience engagement, and editorial and business decision-making.

The diploma program will have a total duration of 80 academic hours, will be delivered in an asynchronous virtual format, and will run over a period of 10 weeks, beginning on February 28 and concluding on May 16, 2026.

As part of this edition, 70 scholarships funded by the IAPA Scholarship Committee will be awarded to facilitate access to the program for outstanding professionals from Latin America. Of these, 15 places will be specifically reserved for members of the Latin American Network of Journalism in Exile (RELPEX), as part of IAPA’s commitment to strengthening the professional development of journalists working in contexts of displacement and vulnerability.

The diploma program is intended for journalists, editors and media executives, communicators, university faculty, media project managers, and professionals interested in innovation, sustainability, and the future of journalism.

Applications will be open until February 6, 2026. Interested applicants may apply through the provided link. For more information, please contact Juan David Bernal, Executive Director of CLAEP, at [email protected].

The IAPA is a non-profit organization dedicated to defending and promoting freedom of the press and expression in the Americas. It comprises more than 1,300 publications from the western hemisphere and is based in Miami, Florida, United States.
