NICARAGUA
Except for a dispute among the Sandinista leaders for
control of the media run by the Sandinista National Liberation
Front (FSLN), no abuses of freedom of expression have been reported in Nicaragua.
A dispatch by Agence France-Presse dated March 5 quoted Sandinista leader Bayardo Arce as denying that
other Sandinista leaders were being denied access to the
FSLN newspaper and radio station, Barricada and Radio
Sandino, as former President Daniel Ortega Saavedra had
charged.
Radio stations - not linked to the government or the
Sandinistas - complained that they were being discriminated
against in the placement of official advertising.
