Resolution of the Midyear Meeting Quito, Ecuador WHEREAS on December 16, journalist and social activist Lydia Camacho was arrested in the city of Cancún, Quintana Roo, and transferred to the city of Puebla, in the midst of irregularities and excesses that the journalist, who is also an author, has denounced WHEREAS her detention was a result of a trial for libel and slander initiated by businessman Kamel Nacif, who in subsequently published tape recordings left evidence of an agreement with Puebla governor, Mario Marín, the procurator Blanca Laura Villeda, and the judge Rosa Celia Pérez González, to arrest and cause harm to Cacho WHEREAS the journalist faced a trial for libel only in Quintana Roo and that on March 13 filed criminal charges with the federal Attorney General´s office against the governor, the procurator and the judge for threats, bribery, attempted rape and traffic of influences WHEREAS the Mexican Supreme Court will resolve in the next few days if it will create a special commission to investigate the possible violation of the individual guarantees of Lydia Cacho, who since last year has been threatened with death after she wrote a book denouncing a child sex trafficking ring THE MIDYEAR MEETING OF THE IAPA RESOLVES to ask the Attorney General of the Republic to thoroughly investigate in an impartial manner the possible crimes involving the governor of Puebla, Mario Marín, the procurator Blanca Laura Villeda and the judge Rosa Celia Pérez González to ask the judicial power in Quintana Roo to continue the course of the trial of Lydia Camacho on charges of libel in an impartial fashion.
