WHEREAS
there is a bill before Congress to amend the General Population Law so that foreign correspondents would not be able to remain in the country for more than five years a decision of this nature would seriously harm freedom of the press
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE IAPA RESOLVES
to warn the government of Mexico that the decision to limit the length of foreign correspondents' stay in the country is contrary to the free fiow of information and to ask that the proposed addendum to Article 42 not leave to the authorities' discretion whether or not to grant an extension of permission
to remain in the country.
