VIOLENCE AGAINST JOURNALISTS WHEREAS four journalists in Brazil, two journalists in Colombia, and one journalist in Mexico have been murdered since the time covered by IAPA's last country-by-country report in numerous other countries journalists have been subjected to personal violence and threats of violence as a result of their coverage in some locations conditions exist in which journalists can be killed, wounded or intimidated with impunity THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE IAPA RESOLVES to begin a program to investigate thoroughly cases in which journalists have been murdered to report periodically to the IAPA membership on the results of these investigations to share the results of its investigation with the appropriate legal authorities to demand that the authorities in Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and other countries where the murder of journalists goes unpunished arrest the perpetrators, try and convict them and then punish them to the full extent of the law to demand that government officials implicated in the murders be pursued with special vigor, as government complicity in the murder of journalists is the ultimate violation of freedom of the press.
