MIAMI, Florida (November 7, 2017)—The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) today announced that Peruvian journalist Gustavo Mohme Seminario is to be the organization's president for the 2017-2018 period, following elections during its 73rd General Assembly held in Salt Lake City, Utah, in late October.
Mohme, editor of the Lima, Peru, daily newspaper La República, and who was IAPA president in 2014-2015, was elected to the office in succession to Matthew Sanders of Deseret Digital Media of Salt Lake City. The honorary life president is Scott Schurz of Herald Times, Bloomington, Indiana.
Also elected were María Elvira Domínguez, El País, Cali, Colombia, first vice president; Christopher Barnes, The Gleaner, Kingston, Jamaica, second vice president; José Roberto Dutriz, La Prensa Gráfica, San Salvador, El Salvador, treasurer, and Bartolomé Mitre, La Nación, Buenos Aires, Argentina, secretary. The IAPA executive director is Ricardo Trotti.
