Miami (September 19, 2023) - The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) expressed satisfaction over the release this morning of journalist Henry Constantín, whom the Cuban regime had detained on September 15.
Carlos Jornet, President of the IAPA's IAPA Committee on Freedom of the Press and Information, said: "We are pleased that our colleague and friend is now free and in good spirits to continue working for free journalism in Cuba."
Constantín, the editor of La Hora de Cuba magazine in Camagüey and regional vice president of the IAPA's Committee on Freedom of the Press and Information in Cuba, expressed gratitude for the international support and outcry following his detention. "I want to stay in Cuba and continue practicing journalism," he wrote in a Facebook post.
Jornet, the editor of La Voz del Interior in Argentina, said: "While we celebrate this moment, we continue to demand respect and full guarantees for journalism work and the exercise of freedom of expression in Cuba."
