SIPCONNECT 2024
Miami (July 18, 2024) – The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) announced the launch of the second edition of an accelerator for digital transformation and economic sustainability that will benefit forty media outlets in Latin America.
The announcement was made during the SIPConnect 2024 conference held in this city. With the support of Google News Initiative (GNI), the "Digital Revenue Accelerator" program will last one year and provide the media with training, mentoring, and GNI funds for special projects.
IAPA President Roberto Rock highlighted the importance of the new edition of the program: "In this stage, we decided to focus on content monetization, a crucial aspect to ensure the economic viability of the media in our region." The director of the Mexican portal La Silla Rota added, "We thank Google News Initiative for its commitment to the IAPA and its partner media outlets."
The new program will be coordinated by the consulting firm MarkTube Group and will feature presentations by experts from Google and the journalism industry. The 40 media outlets will be divided into two groups per semester.
"This program will enable participating media to have the capacity and attention needed to strengthen their monetization strategies," explained Rodrigo Bonilla, Head of News Partnerships for Spanish-speaking Latin America at Google. "It is about fostering conditions so that media outlets can train and dedicate teams to improve the economic sustainability of their digital operations."
Each company will receive individualized consulting and mentoring to create a special project aimed at bolstering their digital revenues.
The "Digital Revenue Accelerator" is the continuation of the Enhanced Fundamentals Lab developed by the IAPA, GNI, and Marktube since last year, benefiting 80 media outlets in Latin America.
