Bogotá, Colombia (October 25, 2026) – Pilar Gil, CEO of PRISA Media, received the Inter American Press Association’s (IAPA) 2026 Executive of the Year Award today during the final day of its 82nd General Assembly, held in Bogotá, Colombia.

Presenting the award, José Roberto Dutriz, CEO of La Prensa Gráfica, highlighted Gil’s efforts to advance a strategy that combines the strength of established journalism brands with new distribution models, innovation, and audience engagement. He also underscored her contribution to expanding the reach of content and strengthening PRISA Media’s presence in strategic Latin American markets.

“Pilar has shown that it is possible to drive growth and transformation while preserving the strength of long-established journalism brands,” Dutriz said. He also highlighted her career at PRISA, where she joined in 2000 and took on increasingly significant responsibilities, including serving as chief financial officer.

Upon receiving the award, Gil reaffirmed her commitment to defending journalism against threats arising from the political and technological environment. “I want to affirm here, alongside the 1,300 media outlets that are part of the IAPA, that we are not afraid and that we will stand up to anyone, human or artificial, who threatens our democratic convictions and our unwavering commitment to freedom of expression and human rights,” she said.

Gil thanked the IAPA for its “unrelenting and highly active commitment to press freedom and its opposition to any law or obstacle designed to constrain or silence us.” She concluded with a call to uphold the values that guide journalistic work: “Here we stand, together, defending independence, pluralism, transparency, rigor, responsibility, and courage. Defending journalism, freedom, and democracy.”
