Artificial Intelligence, Innovation, and Sustainability to Reinvent the Future of Media

Miami (June 10, 2025) — Under the theme “Reinventing the Future of Media,” SIPConnect 2025 will bring together in Miami more than 30 experts and leaders from the Americas and Europe to address the major challenges of the journalism industry amid technological disruption, disinformation, and audience transformation. Organized by the Inter American Press Association (IAPA), the event has become a key forum for innovation and sustainability in Spanish-language media.

The conference is generously sponsored by Google News Initiative, Knight Foundation, Protecmedia, TV Azteca, Infobae, Telemundo, Telecom Argentina, Xalok, Hermanos Castillo, The Kimberly Green Latin American and Caribbean Center at Florida International University, and EFE news agency. Thanks to their support, SIPConnect 2025 will offer a vibrant space for learning, collaboration, and inspiration.

The agenda, accessible at this link, combines keynote speeches, immersive workshops, and high-level panels featuring experts in artificial intelligence, editorial strategy, audiences, product development, business models, press freedom, and emerging narratives.

Among the standout speakers is Dale R. Anglin, Director of Press Forward, who will open the conference with a keynote on new strategies to support local media. She will be joined by Daniel Coronell, President of Univision Noticias, presenting on democracy and digitalization in the age of polarization.

Sonal Shah, CEO of The Texas Tribune, will address how nonprofit media can rebuild public trust. Daniel Hadad, founder of Infobae, will analyze the impact of artificial intelligence on contemporary journalism and the ethical and narrative challenges it poses.

The event will also highlight content personalization, with a strategic session by Claudio Cabrera, VP of Audience at The Athletic, and Aldana Vales, Director of Audience Experiences at Gannett (USA Today Network). In parallel, Marta Planells from Telemundo and Ramin Beheshti from The News Movement will share strategies for engaging young audiences.

The panel on sustainability and artificial intelligence will feature Jonathan Bock (FLIP, Colombia) and Andrés D'Alessandro (ADEPA, Argentina), while Pedro Iván Quintana, Director of the AI Unit at OEM (Mexico), will delve into how algorithms are transforming newsrooms.

Other key speakers include:

  • Mauricio Cabrera, creator of Story Baker, who will speak about immersive storytelling and impactful content.
  • Mariano Blejman, founder of Media Party and CEO of SmartStory.ai, with a provocative talk titled “Black or White Mirror.”
  • Miguel Ángel Oliver, President of EFE news agency, who will deliver a keynote on emerging narratives for a world in crisis.
  • Carlos Salas (El Comercio, Peru), Gerardo Castilla (Vanguardia, Mexico), and Gastón Roitberg (La Nación, Argentina), who will share disruptive ideas in the Lightning Talks on journalistic innovation.

The program also includes two hands-on workshops:

  • A workshop on NotebookLM for media and journalists, led by academic Mariana Alvarado and sponsored by Google News Initiative.
  • A workshop on business models and artificial intelligence led by consultant Néstor Altuve.
  • A Generative AI bootcamp on the Redacciones5G program, taught by Álvaro Liuzzi and sponsored by Telecom Argentina.

SIPConnect 2025 will take place at the Intercontinental Hotel in Doral, Miami, and will offer multiple networking spaces, a welcome cocktail, and collaborative lunches to foster partnerships and exchanges among media outlets, tech platforms, startups, universities, and civil society organizations.
