Miami (October 10, 2024) - There is a week left until the start of the 80th General Assembly of the Inter American Press Association (IAPA), which will be held in Córdoba, Argentina, from October 17 to 20. Key topics will be addressed, such as the impact of democratic deterioration on freedom of the press and expression, the sustainability of the media, and the challenges that artificial intelligence poses to journalism.
Paraguayan President Santiago Peña will be in charge of opening the Assembly on Thursday, October 17, highlighting the relevance of this meeting for press freedom in the Americas. Luiz Henrique Matos, director of news partnerships for Google in Latin America, will also be part of the event, providing his vision on the role of the technology giant in the future of digital journalism.
One of the main points will be the updating of the Salta Declaration on Freedom of Expression in the Digital Age, in order to adapt it to technological advances, especially in the field of artificial intelligence.
Under the motto "Journalism of the present, journalism of the future", renowned editors such as Marty Baron, former director of The Washington Post, will share their perspectives, including an analysis of the presidential elections in the United States. The complete program is available at this link.
Participants will have access to a minisite, in Spanish and English: 80sip.com.ar, which will be constantly updated and can be consulted throughout the event on mobile phones, tablets and computers. This site includes the complete agenda; the list of speakers and their summarized biographies; the documents and speeches that will be produced at the Assembly; useful information and tourist data for those who come to Córdoba, and there will be a gallery of images of the event.
