MIAMI, Florida (December 6, 2017)—The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) today announced the opening of calls for entries in its traditional Excellence in Journalism contest that promotes the quality of contents and their impact on society.

The organization reported that the contest continues to have enormous acceptance among the journalists and news media of the Americas, as demonstrated in the high numbers of participants. The contestants are recommended to consult the Rules before sending in their works, as there are now new specifications. The deadline for entries is January 30, 2018.

Meanwhile the IAPA informed that in line with the rich debates that it has had during its most recent meetings it wishes to focus in this edition on the issues of corruption, transparency, press freedom and access to information, although not ruling out others.

An adjudication panel made up of members of the IAPA's Awards Committee will choose the winner in each of the categories. Each first prize amounts to $2,000. The awards presentation ceremony will be held in October 2018 during the IAPA's 74th General Assembly in Salta, Argentina.

In addition to the 13 categories the IAPA awards the Press Freedom Grand Prize to a person or organization with significant achievements in favor of this cause.
