Miami (July 18, 20250 - As part of the SIPConnect 2025 conference, organized by the Inter American Press Association (IAPA), the fifth edition of the Global Summit on Disinformation was officially launched. This international event, in virtual format, gathers leaders from five continents to discuss, propose, and take action against one of the greatest challenges of the digital ecosystem: misinformation.
The Summit is organized by Proyecto Desconfío from Argentina, in collaboration with IAPA and the Foundation for Journalism of Bolivia. It has grown year after year as an interdisciplinary and regional space that brings together journalists, technologists, media, platforms, fact-checkers, researchers, governments, and civil society organizations.
The 2025 edition will take place on September 17 and 18, in a virtual and free format, with simultaneous interpretation in Spanish, English, and, for the first time this year, Portuguese. Since its inception in 2021, this meeting has brought together over 5,000 participants from 25 countries.
Adrián Pino, director of Proyecto Desconfío and member of the Organizing Committee, announced during SIPConnect that proposals for thematic sessions, research, or panel discussions to be integrated into the Summit's program are now open. Journalists, technologists, researchers, educators, and activists are invited to share ideas and experiences to enrich this year's agenda.
Applications can be submitted through the form available at https://forms.gle/zqf7or8AiDYmkz4o9. The deadline is July 31.
The Summit is sponsored by the Google News Initiative, with support from Agência Lupa and the Gabo Foundation as Main Partners, and collaboration from various media partners such as ADEPA, the National Press Association of Chile, AMI (Colombia), IJNET, Info Veritas, and the Knight Center.
For those interested in covering the Summit or receiving materials for dissemination, the organizing team is available to coordinate interviews, partnerships, or editorial content.
